Novel methods for recording and analysing high-density EMG signals.
The main focus of this project will be to customise and develop flexible high-density electrodes suitable for measuring high-density surface EMG signals. These electrodes will be able to interface with traditional wired and novel portable recording systems (wired systems are capable or recording from 128-256 electrodes, while the portable system are able to record ~16 electrodes). Appropriate channel count, electrode density and spatial coverage will be determined by comparing the two systems. Efficient signal processing, analysis and visualisation methods will be developed capable of handling large datasets (potentially up to 256 channels, 1-2 kHz, recording durations of hours to days). Data will be made suitable for use as input for the development of multi-scale biophysical models of muscle excitation-contraction.
