Dr Pau Medrano-Gracia

Biography

Pau has been research-active since 2006 when he started playing with artificial neural networks at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Barcelona, Spain).
In 2008, he was invited to join the Department of Computer Science in the University of Auckland as an honorary research fellow where he also worked as a teaching assistant.
In 2009, he started his PhD within the Cardiac Atlas Project at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute where he developed statistical models of cardiac shape and function until completion in 2012.
Since then, Pau has been working as a post-doctoral Research Fellow developing anatomical models of the coronary arteries in collaboration with the Auckland MRI Research Group (Department of Anatomy with Medical Imaging) and the Auckland Heart Group.
In 2015, avid to learn more about the intersection of Academia and Industry, he completed his third Master's in Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship at the Business School.
Pau held a Senior Fellowship grant from the Green Lane Research and Educational Fund in 2014-2016. In total he was involved in securing over $2m in external funding, including from NIH.

Pau currently works at UniServices, the commercial arm of the University, managing the University of Auckland Inventors' Fund together with the Commercialisation team. As an honorary member of the Department of Anatomy and Medical Imaging, he is still involved in several cardiac research projects.
