Mr Cyril Au
BE (Hons), ME (Hons)
Cyril Au holds a Bacehlor of Engineering (Honours) in Biomedical Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Bioengineering, both from the University of Auckland. For his Masters thesis, he developed polymer packages to protect active medical implantable devices against moisture.
Cyril is currently pursuing his PhD in Bioengineering developing a reliable encapsulation process for a transcutaneous energy transfer (TET) system and understanding the thermal implications of the system.
Prior to his doctoral study, Cyril has held positions developing medical devices such as wound healing implants and non-metallic packages for implantable telemeters.
Research | Current
Cyril's interest is developing a reliable and effective encapsulation process for a TET system suitable for long term implantation. He is also keen on understanding the temperature burden of such a system on the surrounding tissue when used to power active medical implantable devices (AIMD) with high power requirements, such as ventricular assist devices.
He is part of the Implantable Devices Group at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute.
