Biography

Yuting Zhu received a Master of Philosophy with Honours from the Auckland University of Technology after completing a master’s thesis entitled “Wireless Sensor Technology for Collecting Surface Electromyography Signals” in 2014.

Yuting joined the Department of Engineering Science in 2013, and commenced her doctoral research project at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute in 2015.

Thesis

Shear strain sensor for improving robotic and human dexterity

Research intent
To develop a sensor to measure shear, which will be incorporated into a dielectric elastomer material. The sensor could be used for a variety of different applications as required for health purposes for example:

  1. Stroke retrains for grip capacity.
  2. Prevention of diabetic foot ulcers.

The sensor will also be applicable to other mainstream soft-robotic applications.
