Dr Amy Bird

PhD (Developmental Psychology); Post-Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology (Distinction); BSc (First Class Hons), University of Otago.

I lecture in the Department of General Practice and Primary Healthcare. I co-ordinate and teach two post-graduate primary mental health courses: POPLPRAC702 (Adult Primary Mental Health) and POPLPRAC754 (Child and Adolescent Primary Mental Health).

I am involved in several research projects in primary care looking at mental health screening, and I am particularly interested in clinician-patient relationships and communication about mental health issues. I also work as a researcher for Growing Up in New Zealand - NZ's contemporary pre-birth cohort study. I am involved in projects examining parent-child interactions, wider family and whanau relationships, and early childhood education.
