Dr Avan Suinesiaputra

BE in Computer Science, MSc in Computational Science, PhD in Medical Imaging


Avan Suinesiaputra received BE in computer science (Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia, 1998), MSc in computational sciences (University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 2002), and PhD in medical imaging (Unversity of Leiden, the Netherlands, 2010). His main research has been focused in the development of automated medical image analysis algorithms. In 2011, he joined the Department of Anatomy with Radiology as a research fellow. His current research theme is machine learning and big data analytics for computer-aided cardiovascular disease.

Research | Current

Left ventricular remodelling in the population

Aim: To develop a mathematical model of cardiac shape and motion that follows the progression of heart disease over time. 

Funding agent: Heart Research Council NZ

Model-based LV dyssynchrony assessment

Aim: To develop computational algorithms to assess left ventricular dyssynchrony in patients enrolled for cardiac resynchronisation therapy.

Funding agent: Auckland Medical Research Foundation

Right ventricular function in adult congenital heart disease

Aim: To develop a novel image processing and a clinical tool to quantify right ventricular function from MRI in patients with congenital heart defects.

Funding agent: National Heart Foundation

Cardiac Atlas Project

Aim: To extend statistical atlasing of cardiac models that have been established by the Cardiac Atlas Project (CAP) into patients with congenital heat disease. This is a collaboration project with the University of California, San Diego.

Funding agents: Faculty Research Development Fund, National Institutes of Health USA
