Dr Carolyn Judith Barrett

PhD

Biography

Carolyn's research focuses on the neural control of the circulatory system.  I have a strong background in integrative cardiovascular physiology, with expertise in nerve recordings from both afferent and efferent nerves. I have established a technique for recording sympathetic nerve activity via telemetry which is unique world wide and has placed me at the forefront of research into the basic mechanisms controlling arterial pressure. More recently I have extended my telemetry techniques and I am currently particularly interested in the role sympathetic nerves play in the development of heart failure, a condition where there exists a strong correlation between levels of sympathetic output and mortality.
