Doctoral Candidate - Doctor of Philosophy

At the University of Auckland I completed a BSc double majoring in Chemistry and Biological Sciences before studying for honours in chemistry. In my honours research I investigated the early stages of biopolymer templated mineralisation of calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate, and the effects of heavy metal ions on the process. I have a passion for marine chemistry and its effect on the growth of aquaculture species.

Research | Current

My current research is with the Institute of Marine Science and my topic investigates the effect of heavy metal ions in seawater on New Zealand green-lipped mussels in aquaculture hatcheries, and how the chelating agent EDTA helps in their early development. Chemical composition of the mussel larvae is investigated using ICPMS at the University of Auckland and XFM at the synchrotron in Melbourne.
