Dr Emma Buckels

PhD (Biomedical Science).

Biography

I received my MSc and PhD degrees from the Liggins Institute at the University of Auckland. I joined the Bone and Joint Research Group in mid-2018, where I am currently a Research Fellow in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Pathology.

Research | Current

My current research is focused on understanding how the metabolically active pancreatic hormone preptin, affects the skeleton. Previous studies have demonstrated that preptin improves insulin secretion, and has positive effects in bone. However, the effects of preptin on the skeleton in vivo are unknown. My other research interests also include skeletal stem cells, the response of these stem cells to fracture, and the developmental origins of health and disease.
