Professor Bowmaker's research involves the synthesis of known and new compounds and their investigation by spectroscopic and other physical methods. The main spectroscopic methods employed are vibrational spectroscopy (infrared and Raman) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR; solution and solid state NMR). The spectroscopic parameters obtained from such studies are analysed to yield information about structure and bonding.


Current projects

  • Vibrational and multinuclear (solution and solid state) NMR studies of Group 11 and Group 12 metal complexes.
  • Vibrational and magnetic resonance spectroscopic studies of redox processes in organic and coordination compounds, nanoscale systems, and conducting polymers.
  • Calculations of electronic structure and spectroscopic parameters of inorganic and coordination compounds.
