Biography

Jacinta is of Tongan/Samoan/German descent who has over 15 years’ experience as a classroom teacher in the primary sector where she held middle leadership roles in charge of a large syndicate of teachers, and leading literacy, health and physical education. Jacinta has worked on multiple research projects at the Woolf Fisher Research Centre which include research on NZCER Tertiary Education Strategy Frameworks; Manaiakalani Innovation and Evaluation and Outreach; Curriculum support materials research programme; SEPTA Digital learning project.

Research | Current

Jacinta was a key researcher on a two year pilot project in low decile secondary schools that explored patterns of ‘talk about text’ between teachers and students across subject areas in Years 11 to13.

Jacinta is also the PLD Literacy Facilitator for PLSLP (Pacific Literacy & School Leadership Project) a regional project across 3 island nations, Tonga, Cook Islands and Solomon Islands, funded by NZMFAT (New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade)  in partnership with University of South Pacific and Ministries of Education in all 3 countries. She is also a researcher in the Developing in Digital Worlds project funded by Ministry of Business Innovation & Employment (MBIE).

Jacinta’s doctoral study seeks to investigate patterns of dialogic talk in primary schools with high numbers of Pacific students in Aotearoa.
