Biography

Juan is a PhD Candidate in Geography at the University of Auckland, School of the Environment. Before starting his PhD he completed a Master degree in Geographic Information Science at the Universidad Católica of Chile, where he later become a GIS teacher for five years. His PhD research focuses on exploring the intersection between power, spatial media (maps, geographic information, geo-visualisations, and geo-social media, among others) and the construction of representations and knowledge of nature in the Patagonia region. Since 2018, he is part of the GIScience team of the University of Auckland as a Professional Teaching Fellow.
