Biography

Associate Professor Jennifer P. Craig is a therapeutically qualified academic optometrist in the Department of Ophthalmology.  Her main research interest is ocular surface disease, including dry eye and tear film dysfunction, since completing her PhD in this area, in 1995, at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland, as well as cornea, contact lenses and refractive surgery. She currently heads a team of doctoral, post doctoral, and undergraduate researchers within the Ocular Surface Laboratory at the University of Auckland and regularly delivers continuing education and research lectures internationally, as well as publishing in both the scientific and clinical press.  She has an H-index of 32, with over 125 peer-reviewed publications and over 70 articles in the professional press.  She is co-author of the book ‘The Tear Film’, and has authored and co-authored a number of book chapters.  Jennifer has contributed to the Tear Film and Ocular Surface (TFOS) International Workshops on Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Contact Lens Discomfort as well as serving as Vice-Chair of their second global Dry Eye Workshop (TFOS DEWS II), the reports from which were published in Ocular Surface in 2017. Jennifer is immediate past chair of the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board of New Zealand and is a current Director on the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand.
