Karl Mutch works at Team Solutions in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Auckland as National Director of the Secondary Student Achievement professional learning and development initiative and as Workforce Manager for the Play.sport professional learning and development contract. Karl leads teams of specialist facilitators working alongside school leaders and teachers to improve outcomes for New Zealand students, with a particular focus on those students at risk of underachieving.
Karl is one of New Zealand’s most experienced managers of professional development in the schooling sector. He has previously been a curriculum leader in secondary schools, an adviser, a national examiner and moderator and has worked as a contractor for the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and for the Ministry of Education. Karl has also previously worked in international education, as the Faculty's international manager for a number of years. He has been a director of a range of professional development initiatives for over 20 years.
Karl's professional interests are in professional learning, schooling improvement and collaborative expertise.

Karl's teaching background is in secondary education. He taught for 13 years and was head of a large English department. He has been an national examiner for English as well as an English Adviser/Facilitator.
