Research | Current

My current research focuses on understanding the role of non-neuronal cells in Alzheimer's disease using post-mortem human brain tissue and post-mortem human brain-derived primary cell cultures. My PhD research is aiming to elucidate the changes in these non-neuronal cells that are associated with Alzheimer's disease, especially with their role in maintaining the blood-brain barrier. My research is also aiming to assess how these changes correlate with the currently recognised primary neuropathological hallmarks of AD. These will hopefully help in identifying molecular targets for early diagnosis and therapy, and hopefully even to improve on current proposed therapeutic strategies.
