Dr Myra Pui-Sum Leung

Bachelor of Optometry and Vision Science (Hons) TPA endorsement, University of Auckland, May 2011

I am currently a doctoral candidate in the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Auckland.

In conjunction with the LiFePaTH (Liggins Fetal, Perinatal and maternal Translational Research for Lifelong Health) Group from the Liggins Institute, I have been investigating the effects of preterm birth and associated conditions (particularly neonatal hyperglycaemia and retinopathy of prematurity) on visual development in later childhood through two studies: Protein, Insulin And Neonatal Outcomes (PIANO) study and Examining Young Eyes for Signs of PrematuritY (EYE-SPY) study.

My investigations have involved using various techniques to examine visual function and ocular structure; these include standard optometric tests, ocular imaging (wide-field digital retinal imaging, ocular biometry, optical coherence tomography), electrophysiology, psychophysical testing of global motion perception, and neuropsychological testing of visual-motor integration.
